Easy Air Fryer Doughnuts

Do you like donuts? Do you have an air fryer? With a can of biscuit dough and just the teensiest bit of coconut oil or olive oil, you can be enjoying warm, flaky donuts in just 10 minutes — no hot oil splatters or deep-fry thermometers in sight. Here’s how to do it.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 (16.3-ounce) can  flaky large biscuits, such as Pillsbury Grands! Flaky Biscuits
  • Olive oil spray or coconut oil spray

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl; set aside.

  2. Remove the biscuits from the can, separate them, and place them on the baking sheet. Use a 1-inch round biscuit cutter (or similarly-sized bottle cap or shot glass) to cut holes out of the center of each biscuit.

  3. Lightly coat an air fryer basket with olive or coconut oil spray (do not use nonstick cooking spray such as Pam, which can damage the coating on the basket).

  4. Place 3 to 4 donuts in a single layer in the air fryer (they should not be touching). Close the air fryer and set to 350°F. Cook, flipping halfway through, until the donuts golden-brown, 5 to 6 minutes total. Transfer donuts to the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining biscuits. You can also cook the donut holes — they will take about 3 minutes total.

  5. Brush both sides of the warm donuts with melted butter, place in the cinnamon sugar, and flip to coat both sides. Serve warm.

So quick and a great project to make with the kids. They taste light & airy too. Yum!

Sense of Smell Gone?

The olfactory system is responsible for our sense of smell. This sense, also known as olfaction, is one of our five main senes and involves the detection and identification of molecules in the air.

Once detected by sensory organs, nerve signals are sent to the brain where the signals are processed. Our sense of smell is closely linked our sense of taste as both rely on the perception of molecules. It is our sense of smell that allows us to detect the flavors in the foods we eat. Olfaction is one of our most powerful senses. Our sense of smell can ignite memories as well as influence our mood and behavior.

Our sense of smell is a complex process that depends on sensory organs, nerves, and the brain. Structures of the olfactory system include:

  • Nose: opening containing nasal passages that allows outside air to flow into the nasal cavity. Also a component of the respiratory system, it humidifies, filters, and warms the air inside the nose.
  • Nasal cavity: cavity divided by the nasal septum into left and right passages. It is lined with mucosa.
  • Olfactory epithelium: specialized type of epithelial tissue in nasal cavities that contains olfactory nerve cells and receptor nerve cells. These cells send impulses to the olfactory bulb.
  • Cribriform plate: a porous extension of the ethmoid bone, which separates the nasal cavity from the brain. Olfactory nerve fibers extend through the holes in the cribriform to reach the olfactory bulbs.
  • Olfactory nerve: nerve (first cranial nerve) involved in olfaction. Olfactory nerve fibers extend from the mucous membrane, through the cribriform plate, to the olfactory bulbs.
  • Olfactory bulbs: bulb-shaped structures in the forebrain where olfactory nerves end and the olfactory tract begins.
  • Olfactory tract: band of nerve fibers that extend from each olfactory bulb to the olfactory cortex of the brain.
  • Olfactory cortex: area of the cerebral cortex that processes information about odors and receives nerve signals from the olfactory bulbs

Have you heard of olfactory bulb training?

I have heard this has helped many get their sense of smell back.

Your olfactory bulb is located in the forebrain and is responsible for your smell!

Taking 4 of your most familiar scents (mine are essential oils) smell them deeply 30 seconds each 2-3 times a day!

Try and remember how they smell and what memories they used to bring up. How they used to make you feel.

Practice 2-3 times a day!

Studies have shown significant increase in sense of smell with this practice.

Also taking 100mg of Zinc has also helped.

Our Sense of Smell

Our sense of smell works by the detection of odors. Olfactory epithelium located in the nose contains millions of chemical receptors that detect odors. When we sniff, chemicals in the air are dissolved in mucus. Odor receptor neurons in olfactory epithelium detect these odors and send the signals on to the olfactory bulbs. These signals are then sent along olfactory tracts to the olfactory cortex of the brain through sensory transduction.

The olfactory cortex is vital for the processing and perception of odor. It is located in the temporal lobe of the brain, which is involved in organizing sensory input. The olfactory cortex is also a component of the limbic system. This system is involved in the processing of our emotions, survival instincts, and memory formation.

The olfactory cortex has connections with other limbic system structures such as the amygdala, hippocampus, and hypothalamus. The amygdala is involved in forming emotional responses (particularly fear responses) and memories, the hippocampus indexes and stores memories, and the hypothalamus regulates emotional responses. It is the limbic system that connects senses, such as odors, to our memories and emotions.

So interesting learning how our bodies work. Here are a few oils that I would use to help with getting my smell back.

Birth Day Box

I’ve seen these “exploding picture boxes” everywhere. There are several different kinds and some really great ideas. I decided to make one for my grandsons birthday. I was going to go to the dollar store & see if they had any boxes that fit inside each other, nesting boxes, but decided to just use what I had around the house.

I had these white gift boxes, so I used those & cut them to size. I know I could have done a much neater job if I had more time but I think it came out pretty good for my first try!

I printed out pictures of us and some birthday pictures and then some kids jokes. I hope he likes the jokes!

SnapChat is so much fun with kids! We crack up every time!!

Well it was fun to put it together and I think I will be making these again! Until next time!

Angels and Rainbows

I woke up this morning and walked in the kitchen and this is what I saw…

God’s light shining down in the most beautiful rainbow of colors!!

All I could think was wow! Boy did I need to see that this morning!

These last few months have been not the best in this 60 something-year-old’s life. I always try to focus on all of the good things I have in my life but some mornings you just don’t wanna get out of bed because you don’t know how you’re going to make it through the day.

I’ve had children to take care of since I was 19 years old. I had the pleasure of raising my oldest granddaughter from 2-1/2 years old until she turned 18 and then abruptly moved out. In a matter of days I became an empty nester at 61-1/2, with no time at all to prepare for it. It definitely wasn’t the way I had pictured it would be happening. But it’s not about me, everyone lives their own lives their own way.

You do everything you can, and you do it the best you think you can, and it doesn’t really matter a whole lot what you think because everyone that you do the things for sees it in a different way than you do. That doesn’t make you do it any differently, you still do it the best you know how to do it and hope somehow it has helped in someway shape them into a good decent human being.

Do they really know how much you love them? What could have I done better as a parent? When it’s time for them to go, it hits you like a ton of bricks!

It doesn’t help when everything else seems to be going not the way you planned it to go either. I thought growing up and dealing with all of the things you deal with as a parent was tough but I’m beginning to think it’s all tough, it’s just different things that you deal with at different times in your life.

It certainly is true what they say, some people just know that you need them without you saying a word. (You know who you are!❤️)

Then there are some that have absolutely no clue, or maybe they just don’t care to have a clue. I hope I am one who always has a clue no matter what’s going on and I’ve always tried to be there for the people I care about no matter, with no expectations.

I don’t know what the next 20 years is going to bring into my life, I’m just trying to make it through the day, but I know life goes on and you figure it out somehow…

Still trying to be a “Super Woman” til the day i’m no longer here.

A few important rules to teach your daughter

A few important rules to teach your daughter

1. It’s okay to cry when you’re hurt.

But, wash your face, and get up off the floor when you’re done. You don’t belong down there.

2. You are a woman, you do NOT need a man, but you can absolutely enjoy your life with a good one.

3. Happiness is not a permanent state. Wholeness is. Don’t confuse these.

4. Never walk through an alley alone.

5. ‘Can’t’ – is a cop-out.

6. Hold your heroes to a high standard. Be your own hero.

7. If you can’t smile with your eyes, don’t smile. Insincerity is nothing to aspire to.

8. Stay true to yourself always.

9. Your body, your rules.

10. If you have an opinion, you’d better know why.

11. Practice your passions.

12. Ask for what you want. The worst thing they can say is no.

13. Wish on stars, and then get to work to make them happen.

14. Stay as sweet as you are.

15. Say Please, Thank You, and Pardon Me, whenever the situation warrants it.

16. Reserve “I’m sorry” for when you truly are!

17. Question everything … except your own intuition.

18. You are amazing! Don’t let anyone ever make you feel you are not. If someone does….walk away. You deserve better.

19. No matter where you are, you can always come home.

20. Be happy and remember your roots.

21. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

22. Be kind; treat others how you would like them to treat you.

23. If in doubt, remember whose daughter you are and straighten your crown. 👑
